Copa del Rey / King's Cup

16. King's Cup

Juan Carlos - King of Spain

Juan Carlos I.
The King of Spain

Every August, the waters of the Bay of Palma take on a special hue. An infinite number of yachts from all over the world congregate together to compete in one of the most prestigous regattas in the Mediterranean.
Christina

Princess Christina,
Duchess of
Palma de Mallorca

The King and Queen and their children are some of the staunchest supporters of this annual trophy which is now in its sixteenth year.
Cruisers such as the Bribón, el Hispania, Aifos, Azur de Puig, Sol-Meliá, Breitling, Pinta or the National Nederlanden who are some of the regular entrants in this race, give some idea of the magnitude and importance of this event.

King's Cup

The competition comprises seven races of which five are windward/leeward, one is of average legth and one is a long one.

But the King's Cup does not only take place at sea. The sailing spirit and a sense of companionship pervades every corner of the Club and, on competition days, there are numerous social events which culminate in a dinner.
