BIOGRAPHY
Maria Antonia Cerdá was in 1965 in Palma de Mallorca in a family with a long tradition in art which gave her the opportunity at a very early age to sculpt and paint in the families own workshop.
At the age of 20 she settled to live in the countryside with her own 'atelier', and since then dedicate herself exclusively to art.
In order to widen her knowledge she attended very specialised courses of artistic anatomy, painting drawing from live model – first in Barcelona, later in London and finally several years in the 'Ecole de Beaux Arts' (School of fine arts) in Paris.

Maria Antonia Cerdá belongs without a doubt to the young generation of majorcan artists.
An artist who is a figurative painter because she finds the faces, nudes and human figure in general, something fascinating and an endless source of inspiration, which are shown in powerful colors.
She is also seduced by the very special atmosphere and landscapes of Mallorca which she has often reflected in her paintings.
Another source of ideas she finds in the objects of the everyday life around her or flowers that she collects to include later on in her still lifes.
She tries to express the bright light of the Mediterranean and the joy and mystery of life through strong, bright and contrasting colour, which she considers a source of vibration and energy, which creates a magical atmosphere where normal things seem to have another dimension and invite to fantasy.
She paints with a technique of mixed media, in which she makes her own colours with natural pigments and construct the picture using many overlapping layers that allow transparencies which give a sense of atmosphere and depth that plays with the eye of the observer.
Her paintings are on the line of the Fauvism and Expressionism because of the figurative subject and the arbitrary use of strong colours, although deriving from it and bringing it to a personal and contemporary approach.
