Finca Es Castell
Far from the crowded beaches, the heaving night-clubs and the bustling tapas bars that Mallorca is famous for, there are undisclosed places still reveling in peace and tranquility. There are spaces where time seems to have stood still and the atmosphere takes you back in time, one hundred, five hundred, a thousand years.

Voted as one of the prettiest hotels in Mallorca, Es Castell is just such a place, a charming little hotel where the silence is broken only by the hum of cicadas during the day and the far-away tinkling of sheep-bells at night.

Located at the foot of the Tramuntana Mountains in North-West Mallorca near the village of Caimari, agriculture and tourism co-exist here, the main buildings of the hotel and farm being surrounded by acres of olive, orange, lemon, fig and almond trees.

A dirt road takes you from the sleepy hamlet of Binibona past rolling fields dotted with gnarled olive trees and suddenly you are rewarded with your first glimpse of the old house, where it stands dominating the surrounding countryside.

From this elevation the view of the 750 acres that make up the grounds is impressive, encompassing the majestic mountains at the back of the hotel, the surrounding olive groves at the front, and stretching over the many villages that dot the lower countryside, all the way up to bay of Alcúdia.

The hotel building dates from the XI Century.

As you enter Es Castell you step into a bygone era where the secrets of past generations are worn into the thick stone that makes up its walls.

Pass through the cobbled patio, past the medieval well in the courtyard and stop to admire the old olive press, or take a walk through the gardens up to the pool, with its dazzle of bougainvillea, the al fresco terrace, or the roof terrace, where you can appreciate the spectacular view with a cold glass of Pere Seda and a plate of pimientos del padron.

Or, if you want to just sit or read, find a secluded spot in the lounge behind the dining room, where you can totally unwind in front of the fireplace.

Much of the produce used in our kitchen is from the finca’s own grounds - lamb, chicken, oranges, lemons, tangerines, figs, almonds, olives, pears, honey - and from the local markets.
Nothing is frozen, and menus change daily according to availability.

Things to do here abound: take a leisurely stroll within the grounds of the finca, picking fruits and nuts as you go, or, if you prefer something more energetic, fishing, biking and horse-riding can be organized at short notice.

Palma is 35 minutes away, the nearest beach only 20 minutes away, and the quaint villages of Caimari, Selva and Moscari are just at a stone’s throw. The caves of Campanet, the monastery of Lluc and the ruined castle of Alaró are all within easy reach for leisurely day trips.
